“If form follows function… this is the other side of the coin toss!”©

[This is a follow-up to this article, found here.]

If one was to consider form and function first, of the actions we have seen by Colin Kaepernick, does he truly deserve to be honored- if it was done from ignorance? What I mean here is not a racist statement… not an endorsement to disrespecting our National Anthem… not a viewpoint without concern for America as a whole- or even ‘a game’ many Americans watch on Thursday, Monday or Sunday.

When one considers historical the request to stand… during the National Anthem, the very suggestion for it becomes an expected tradition. When this expectation is not honored is when it appears there is a slight to our traditions, the things we gain value from or the values we see as being honorable in and of themselves. This actually begs the question, is it then an expected formality, having form and appearance, or a gesture in accordance with conventional norms of etiquette? Variation to what is currently under such scrutiny (today) is due to the uproar or approval of the action taken by Colin Kaepernick. To see ’taking a knee’ as racist is stupidity; whereas it becomes a racist statement if a raised fist is used (no different than a raised open hand) and not before. I say it is done in ignorance though if… if we remain ignorant to what history has shown us, and that would be to deny the veracity of the strength of reason for what we do.

We get the term ‘uncouth’ from England, this comes from being ‘unknown’ to either present company or to the appearance of things done by someone not from the area- being unexperienced with the customs. This is also called ignorance… or of being ignorant1️⃣ to local traditions, actions taken when people encounter one another in a province, district or locale. This same ignorance to history can apply to social gestures, speech or actions we might consider couth (known and commonplace), take the thumb’s up for example- a sign we take to mean we agree or it’s OK with how we perceive it to be.

1… Ignorant: lacking knowledge or awareness in general; uninformed or unaware. Latin ignorant-’not knowing.’

In Rome when the Emperor displayed his thumb (in the arena) it meant anything but OK… it meant death, or a death sentence for one of the participants. Life was given a signal when the thumb was concealed within the hand, meaning… don’t pull the weapon to use it- keep it in the sheath. From Discover magazine… a brief abstract is found below, an article regarding the thumb and the meaning of its use, called,”Thumb and Thumber”.

But according to Morris, the thumb gesture indicating that a gladiator should be offered mercy or a lucrative deal endorsing Roman Meal Bread was pollice compresso, compressed thumb–that is, covered up, or tucked out of sight. What spectators in fact did was extend their thumbs for a kill and hide their thumbs for an acquittal, writes Morris. This made sense in an arena as vast as the Colosseum, where the kill and no-kill signals would have to be strongly contrasting to be visible at all.

Here is the phrase in Latin: pollice compresso favor ludicabatur [meaning: goodwill decided by compressed thumb]… Life was spared by a tucked thumb inside the fist, making it look like a weapon inside the sheath. A thumb up meant make your weapon look like the thumb, unsheathed. A turned thumb up… sideways, pollice verso, probably meant to use the weapon judiciously- take the life of the Gladiator.

At first Colin Kaepernick sat down to protest, reported by Steve Wyche, NFL Media reporter, Aug. 27, 2016, in Santa Clara, California. According to Steve Wyche, Kaepernick was showing support for the Black Lives Matter movement. See the article here. What followed was The 49er Statement, seen below…

“The national anthem is and always will be a special part of the pre-game ceremony. It is an opportunity to honor our country and reflect on the great liberties we are afforded as its citizens. In respecting such American principles as freedom of religion and freedom of expression, we recognize the right of an individual to choose and participate, or not, in our celebration of the national anthem.”

The NFL also released a Statement, one obtained by NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport:

“Players are encouraged but not required to stand during the playing of the national anthem.”

To fully understand this is to peel back the layers to its beginning, taking a knee, an article on it by Eric Reid, one posted in The New York Times, Sept. 25, 2017. See two brief abstracts below…

That’s when my faith moved me to take action. I looked to James 2:17, which states, “Faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” I knew I needed to stand up for what is right.

But to quote the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., “A time comes when silence is betrayal.” And I choose not to betray those who are being oppressed.

To fully decide for yourselves if actions taken were done from ignorance, as it comes to kneeling, we must learn what is meant by kneeling in the first place.

Knee; Kneel

Can it be, there was a reason for kneeling… or taking the knee, and it is not disrespectful but a form of supplication to what the Anthem, flag and song embody. Look below to what has been foretold all of us (alive) will do when Jesus returns.

Romans 14:11 KJV
http://www.biblestudytools.com/kjv/romans/14-11.html
11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.

So I ask you, my fellow Americans, was this done in ignorance… I’d think not! Let us not be so rash to decide so quickly, provoking a knee-jerk reaction or so swift in the judgement we ourselves may be in store for in the days ahead. Now is the time we will need the support of each and everyone that calls themselves American… and we need to kneel to God in prayer for the strength to endure sure prophecy that comes upon us all.

P.S. This is where I lost my sight, on the Black Lives Matter movement, but it does not: remove or lessen the importance to wrongs by some in our society, call for anything being sound reason for its destruction (to remove statues perceived as something being racist) if it would diminish the reason for the strength we’ve gain by overcoming it, or to mean we should not look to find we (truly) have more in common than we do not!

If one was to do nothing… as if to vote ‘No’,
like McCain did, is it to then approve
of Obamacare more than it would be seen,
in truth, to throw life jackets at sailors… above
you would be to the people left in the waters
of despair, disillusioned by healthcare failure,
the inequality of: paying for no care, having but
one provider (or soon none) loss does ensure
the forfeiture of ‘a failed system’ pawned off
on all of us, the bait and switch, so apathetic…
and gullible to believe it would work as it was
sold,”kills mice… mailed a brick”, so sympathetic
is McCain… the hero, the ‘Zonie’ that has bragged
about doing nothing for Arizona Vets, is this good?
This is the right thing to do? Here too, nothing!
No… stopping progress to a siphon out-of-control,
worse yet, the sailors in the water (the public)
are swimming away from the life vests… the mole
needs no light to dig a hole for his own selfish
satisfaction, from pressure to throw some light
on the subject, to see by… from and with, just to
simplistic and naive to do that, one sense is sight.

I wouldn’t call McCain a hero… just an unfortunate that was shot down and captured. This same guy has rolled over on the people of his own State, the same ones he used to rise to the status granted by some… to call him a hero, and it is time he goes forward to the annals of history. This also included being forced to pay for ‘Planned Parenthood’, even if you did not agree with what they stand for… what they do… or senseless killing of innocents! Wasn’t this then taxation without representation… one of the very reasons we rebelled against the crown- in England?

Barack ran on ‘Change’ to win the presidency, didn’t he? I say it is time to change again… to see the truth of what we have is failed… or failing miserably. See here what I mean, below…

What do we prefer… this http://www.marketwatch.com/story/7-obamacare-failures-that-have-hurt-americans-2016-03-24 or that? Let’s tell it like it is for a change… change to ‘there is more than meets the eye’ to what we’re told! Less,’Lions… and Tigers… and Bears, oh NO!,’ and more,”Can someone clean these glasses… these smudges look like entitlements are more important than improving our (sad) condition we’re in.” https://finance.yahoo.com/news/op-ed-trump-budget-just-160449563.html

“The object of want… not need”

The more I see in the media… the more I see why Hillary didn’t win. Comey did us a favor… and the media helped- churning story after story on the same thing… night after night. It  turned out to be more like a bad soap opera,”As our stomach turns.” Samuel Clemens had a saying,”If you don’t read the paper you are uninformed. If you do you are misinformed.”

Have we advanced so far… so much
we can no longer discern ‘eternity
in a daffodil1️⃣’… long past, to advanced
for that, turning in to turn to scrutiny…
the congress of unity removed by reversal
of fortune, the pendulum swings in its time,
to swing away from a proper complacency
is seen in the microcosm myopic as a crime…
the crime committed is loss, and the reaction
is an overreaction, Machiavellian in nature,
the scorched earth mentality seen by the
other party when its own fail us to nurture,
the romantics be damned… philosophy left
an ideal by the running heels of feeling,
the pettiness of ‘social justice’ an entitlement,
object of our want… not need, Indiana’s calling!
place no utensils on the table for the
unknown soldier, when the known are behind
and left… entombed for their naked trust
we’ve beggared… this truth we’ve yet to find,
and, renewed, we’d say we see everything
in anything… consumed then by our hate,
deriding by skills spent without concern
to loss but narrows life to a certain fate.

Must we be held captive to ‘rampant paranoia’ as it is seen coming from those with such a loathing hatred for POTUS Trump… they can’t stand it! Yes is the obvious answer… in light of First Amendment rights. Does it mean it is true, NO… or that we believe it- NO applies here also. The ‘Bum Steer’ of politics is not looking at the foibles in your own party but being hyper-critical of the other- to drink the punch intended for someone else! When you’d believe your own propaganda and the truth gets kicked away… we all lose ground!

Yes, I’m a Democrat too! I’m not just a ‘box-head’ variety Democrat… I’m a deplorable Veteran- one that handled ‘Classified’ material (hands on).

“When reaction holds the key”

Must we stoop to base emotions when responding (reacting) to what someone has: said, done or implied… even when to believe the perception we’d use is thought to be correct- and (yet) we might be wrong ourselves!

Tell unity the flag still waves for freedom…
emblematic of the discourse we face,
though distilled in darker days than these,
we shall overcome with much less disgrace.

Tell hope not to fail, encourage her own
with strength and fortitude of character,
found anew is this humble-pride we can
maintain without risk in troubles chancier.

Tell courage to endure… to hunker down
in the path of gale or storm we’d weather,
remember sure and long a calmer time…
storms passing ensures doubt’s whether.

Tell love to embrace what is good, to then
cling to wisdom over a lukewarm heart…
fickle though they’d be, at times, knowledge
of love and how to react is where to start.

Tell honor virtue is still sought for and will
be defended, not left an unwilling conscript,
when liberty for all (bound by love and goal
together) is strived for without such contempt.

If bigot and reactionary can be used interchangeably… it must come down to the bias we exert, the nature of the emphasis… even to who is affected and who gains from it!

Eight years of Bush led us to… eight years of Obama led us to… Trump!

See the words of the ex-President (unvarnished) about religion. Did you wish you knew this back then… but didn’t think it important?

“When ‘hate’ was driven by kind people”

Have we become more enamored with the ideal of togetherness only to forfeit the substance of what it means… to all of us?

When love becomes the carrot dangled in front
of us but not the reason the cart then moves…
no form of commitment to kindness exists, for
what is the burden borne without the naves1️⃣
to ease all thought… to fixate on what we are
told the goal is, by suggestion laid at our feet,
the truth be told… we’d be left ’the suckers’ for
hate was the goal we aid and do complete.

nave… noun, the hub of a wheel, root from Sanskrit… nābhis.

To finger point at Trump when white racists come out of the wood work (used as an axis or fulcrum) but not see the same thing elsewhere is to miss the point entirely. It becomes less about hate and more to aid one’s own convictions (or viewpoint) and lacks integrity to ‘kindness’ as it should be known or understood. Kindness, stemming from love (or togetherness), is rendered mute but ‘hate’ itself is then intensified- a polemic rises from the dust of indifference to the winds of ignorance. I stress ignorance here but mean it more as an action to ignore something… like the relative connection of ‘hate begetting hate’ and the frequency increasing as more incidents occur.

To see one thing (here) but not the same here!

To think ‘togetherness’ but not think about the source (organizer).

To demand the truth about Flynn but disregard the truth about ex-POTUS Obama and the Hillary connection.

A comment on Facebook… my own!
If you say you are voting for Hillary, an avowed globalist, you had better ‘hip yourself up’ to what UN Resolution 16/18 is all about. Hillary was instrumental, while working(?) for the US State Department(?), in arguably assisting: an outside organization, put forth efforts to promote an Agenda counter to American values (being based on a Judeo-Christian standard), to aid and abet ‘distinction based on bias’; which could be used to further erode US ‘free speech’ on US soil. UN Resolution 16/18 comes with two flaws… it fails to address violations coming from, and by, the ones it aids, and does not see itself having a bias but assumes to gain a stronger foothold, to clear the way, in seeking supremacy itself.

In all fairness (in kindness), here is what Snopes has come out with… over the same picture used to generate ‘more hate’ seen coming from: Berkeley, actions and some biased comments used to steer others to directed conclusions. This is as kind as it gets!

I can look on with admiration to accomplishments of friends and family… something I need to focus on myself. I’m going to be taking a course of study… opening a new vista to gain insight from and for ‘an up-grade’ for personal finances. Please know there is plenty to read from here, even to give some of it a historical perspective of veracity to claim(s) and time to ponder. You can look on at either of my three Blogs… found in the menu, under the Blog description, and through ‘About Inkedvocabulary (Russell D. Holder).’ You have a choice of: Contemporary (this one), Christian (the spirit lives eternal… where do you intend on spending it?) and a Renaissance themed Blog (with a modern mind attempting to write in old-English. Try it- it is not as easy as you might imagine it to be). I’ll be back as soon as I have had time to focus on improving my writing skills and gain a few tricks or two. Maybe meriting another Blog geared for skills to offer B2B businesses… and marketing my own as well.
